hand" alt="" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/7016/1492/320/Block%20Imagery1.jpg" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;these photos are projects by the architecture firm Miller/ Hull; a firm out of the Pacific Northwest.  many of their projects utilize a variety of building materials that seem to blend with eachother.  attached are two images of buildings whose materials, brick and wood veneer, would be appropriate for a civic building in a residential neighborhood such as our proposed mixed-use building on the Washington Park Beltline site.  the small photo above shows the solid and void rhythm of glass and brick/cmu block.  many of the houses in washington park are made out of brick.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a type='text'>2 X Forum</title><content type='html'>&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;this warmup exercise involved transforming a 2 x 4 into a functional artifact with no waste. in addition, we were also restricted to the use of hand tools which forced more thinking of the design up front than if we were able to create the object as we were building it. i started by making a series of sketches and began to think about how i would assemble the object after i cut the pieces. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;knowing that we had to use all of the 2 x 4 i decided to create a storage device that would hold and organize items on my desk (such as the scraps of wood that were left over). the most interesting part of the project for me was designing the joints of the wood and thinking about how the pieces wood come together. the connection would require a series of cuts in the wo&lt;a href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/7016/1492/1600/Fall%20Studio"&gt;&lt;/a&gt;od and the use of a chisel to form the ends of the pieces so they would join as if it were a puzzle. below are
